Memory cards are to digital cameras what film is to conventional 35mm cameras.
Make sure you know what kind of memory card your camera takes. They come in various forms: SD (Secure Digital) card, Compact Flash, Memory Sticks, XD Cards and MMC cards. Some digital camera manufacturers tend to favor a certain types of card, but by far the most popular card would seem to be the SD card.

Memory cards also come is various capacities measured in Megabytes or Gigabytes. 1000 Megabytes (Mb) = 1 Gigabyte. The more capacity, the more pictures it can store.
